Indie eBook Distributor Booki.sh to Cease Operations

booki.shAustralia’s own ebook distributor Booki.sh announced today that they will stop selling ebooks in June 2013.

We have been privileged to work with Australia’s best independent booksellers as we all fought for a place in what is a difficult market, and we did not come easily to the decision to end our retail operations. We thank the proprietors and staff of Readings, Fullers, Avid Reader, Mary Ryan’s, Imprints, Books for Cooks and Gleebooks for their willingness to be part of this project, and for their input and guidance along the way. Canada’s largest book distributor now bankrupt

H.B. Fenn filed for bankruptcy today. Normally I wouldn’t comment on a book distributor (they don’t seem to handle ebooks), but they released a statement today which said they had:

encountered significant financial challenges due to the loss of distribution lines, shrinking margins and the significant shift to e-books, all of which have significantly reduced the company’s revenues.

SmiZona.com – new digital magazine distributor

I just came across another digital magazine retailer in the Ukraine and Russia. They have about 200 titles on their site, and you can buy both individual issues and subscriptions.

You can read up to 10 pages of an issue free, and the pages displayed match the print layout. Besides current magazines, they also offer an archive of hard to find out of print journal.
