I’m in San Francisco this week for a little light touristing before I attend the Books in Browsers conference. In anticipation of Apple announcing the new iPad Mini, I brought my dummy unit with me.
Some weeks back I ordered a dummy iPad Mini from China. It apparently has almost the exact dimensions of the real thing, and it has been a lot of fun pranking people with it. If you see me at the conference, ask about my tablet.
Between a ridiculous price and ridiculous screen resolution I don’t ever plan to get a real iPad Mini, but the $30 was a different proposition. It’s been a lot of fun.
The dummy has better screen resolution, no?
It was printed at 300DPI, so yes.
That is okay because only a dummy would want to own the real thing!
Hi Nate. I’m here in SF touring in advance if BIB as well. See you at the conference!
Did you measure the dummy against the official Apple dimensions yet? I wonder if it actually matches them. My paper iPad Mini was spot-on (the second one, not the first one I plastered all over posts at my blog… yeesh).
My fake is fractionally narrower than the real thing. The height is almost exactly correct.
Real:
7.87″ x 5.3″
Fake:
7.8″ x 5″
